As Deputy Director of the Michigan Department of Career Development, John L. Williams directed the Offices of Career and Technical Preparation, Adult Education and Postsecondary Services. These offices have jurisdiction over all state-approved career and technical educational programs in Michigan, including more than 2000 occupational programs at some 400 secondary schools and area career centers. As State Director of Career Technical Edcuation, John was elected by his peers to serve on the Board of Directors of the National Association of State Directors of Career Technical Education and was selected Secretary/Treasurer of the group.
He successfully implemented Michigan's Career Preparation System, which
provides appropriate career development information and experiences for all
Michigan students. John's extensive experience dealing with all aspects of
the educational community combined with his ability to connect business,
labor and industry with education make him a key player in forging
education-business community partnerships

John understands the education system at all levels as a result of his
teaching and administrative work within it. He has worked his way through
all levels of the educational system, from teaching English and Psychology
upon receiving his credentials from the University of Michigan, to serving
as an Athletic Director, an Assistant Principal, a Principal, and finally,
as a Regional Career and Technical and Education Administrator.
John lectures extensively on career and technical education subjects
throughout the Americas. His commitment to connecting education to people's
lives has been recognized through a number of service positions and awards,
including the Michigan Career Leadership Network (MCLN) Ralph C. Weinrich
Award for Outstanding Leadership at the State Level.
John has been married for 33 years and has three daughters. He enjoys many
outdoor sports, reading and home improvement projects.
